The traditional industries of gold, silver, silk and lacquer ware have helped to make this city one of the most important centers of commerce in the country. Today, skyscrapers dominate the skyline and Japanese cars and western goods are hugely popular and widely available.

The overland tour from Sichuan to Tibet can be regarded as the most dangerous one, while the scenery along the way is one of the most stunning beautiful. For successfully accomplishing this trip, a comparatively long time for preparation will be necessary, at least 15-20 days.
